Colonial Day Annual Celebration

June 7, 2008
10AM - 4 PM
(Rain Date June 8th)

Colonial Day is a one-day celebration (rain date Sunday, June 8th) that is filled with a number of events including tours of historic sites and private properties plus colonial artisans and crafters.    You will see signs of Colonial Life all over Newtown Square, but the historic tavern on Rt. 252 & Goshen Road will be a major center of activity.   Join us for lunch: hotdogs, fruit, cookies, and lemonade, all with a colonial twist - featuring the First Continental Regt. of Foot re-enactors demonstrating life in a colonial military encampment.   Children will be fascinated with the Revolutionary War living history encampment just outside the Tavern.  The Lederach Cooper will be nearby demonstrating the colonial era technique of making barrels and other containers.  Carol Schaeffer's spectacular exhibit of her paintings featuring local historic buildings, including many of the Newtown Square historic sites, will be nearby.   Inside, Clarissa Dillon is cooking up a living history experience with colonial food.   Also featured will be children's activities and crafts.  Again, for the children, face painting!

For the adults and children, public buildings, private homes and sites that will be open, include:

  • The Paper Mill House Museum (1770)
  • The Friends Meeting House (c. 1711 and 1791)
  • The Hood Octagonal School House (1842)
